Such extra breast tissue growths are called Axillary Breast. It is a common condition that leads to discomfort and cosmetic problems creating unwanted bulkiness.
According to recent studies, Axillary Breast can be seen in 2 to 6% of women. It gives the appearance of a lump especially during the time when the hands are down. Situations like weight gain, pregnancy or during menstruating, can make the axillary breasts swell and sensitive to touch.

Surgical Procedure
- To perform liposuction, local anesthesia is administered.
- The entire procedure takes about an hour.
- Underneath the armpit fold, an incision is made measuring in millimetre.
- In case of an excision to be performed, the incision would be longer but well hidden in arm pit region.
- After removing the excess tissue through the given incision, it is closed & dressed.
During the Recovery Period
- Restrictions on activity.
- Some swelling, bruising and numbness for a few weeks.
- Results are visible in a couple of months.
- Swelling, bruising and discomfort after surgery is very common varying on the amount of tissue removed.
Precautions to be taken Post-Operatively
- Prescribed medications should be taken for pain & discomfort.
- To reduce swelling one should take proper rest & avoid physical exertion.
- Use of pressure garment is a must.
- Scars should be protected from sun exposure as scars can become ugly.
- Scar reduction creams can be applied to reduce the visibility of scars.
