Contouring the body for redefined shape

Always remember abdominal etching is not a weight loss surgery but a body contouring surgery. Abdominal etching by liposuction of fat in and around the muscles contours the tone of the midsection of the body and defines a leaner silhouette. Abdominal etching should be done to enhance your looks and to get the confidence of a better and more beautiful body.

What is Abdominal Etching?

Abdominal etching takes liposuction to the next level in men and women both as it involves an advance level of detailing and distinction to the abdomen that gets you Six-Pack Abs. Liposculpture, referred to as abdominal etching or ab sculpting when performed on the midsection, is considered a low-risk surgery. The ab etching procedure involves removing fat deposits from between each of the abdominal muscles while leaving it on top of them. The patient's natural abdominal musculature is highlighted and sculpted to look and feel more fit and firm, creating a furrow-like appearance. Brow Forehead Lift

Abdominal etching is a body contouring surgery applicable for people who have less than 30 percent over their ideal body weight with slight fat deposits around abdominal musculature and who wish to get six pack abs. This fat around the muscles is quite resistant to even stricter diet and exercise regimes. Body builders, athletes, people from hospitality industry tend to choose this procedure to get a fitter, leaner, sculpted and firmer abdomen.

The Abdominal etching procedure can be combined with liposuction of the abdomen and flanks for better results.

What can you expect in Abdominal Etching?

When you gain weight, fat cells increase in size and volume. Liposuction reduces the number of fat cells in an area. The resulting changes are generally permanent unless and until your weight remains stable. After abdominal etching liposuction, the skin moulds itself to the new contours of the treated areas. If you have good skin tone and elasticity the skin is likely to appear smooth, contoured and furrowed in abdominal etching.

4 Step plan for Abdominal etching

First step

Opting between general anesthesia or local anesthesia. The procedure can be done under tumescent local anesthesia as the targeted area of fat deposits are small and localized. General anesthesia is preferred over local anesthesia as it avoids the discomfort associated with the procedure if done under LA. will recommend the best choice after a discussion with you by Dr. Amit Agarwal.Brow Forehead Lift

Second step

Making very small incisions (3-4mm) along the pre-marked line made earlier during the discussion with Dr. Amit Agarwal.

Third step

Tumescent anesthesia solution is infused in the fat tissues under the pre-marked skin of the area of planned surgery to reduce bleeding, pain, and trauma to the tissues. Then a hollow cannula is inserted through the incision with a restricted to and fro motion to loosen the excess fat. Then with the help of the high-pressure surgical vacuum, which is attached to the hollow tube or cannula, this fat is suctioned out of the body. Smaller cannulas are preferred because they cause less scarring and less tissue damage.

Fourth step

Results are assessed after the surgery.

How to recover after the surgery?

After surgery, the treated area is covered with a pressure garment. This garment helps in the compression of the skin and reduces swelling giving you desired body shape and improved contour. You will be made to walk on the same or the next day of the surgery. You will be discharged on the second day of the surgery followed by the weekly visits or as suggested by Dr. Amit Agarwal.

  • There can be substantial swelling and bruising of the surgical area which usually subsides in 3 to 4 weeks
  • Two or three sutures will be mostly on the inner folds and inside the skin which will be dissolvable and do not require to be taken off.
  • In the days following surgery, there will be pain which can be subsided by the pain killers given by Dr Amit Agarwal.
  • Soreness might last for few weeks.
  • You will be made to walk 6 hours post-surgery or the very following day, depending on your will and wish.
When can you return to your daily activities?
  • You can return to your normal lifestyle after a week or two of surgery
  • You can start exercising after three weeks post-surgery.
  • A pressure garment is a must-wear for the next 4 to 6 months without gap or fails for almost 24 hours a day.
  • You can return to work depending on your willpower and the type of work required between 3-4 days.

The factors which affect are
  • Poor circulation,
  • History of blood clots,
  • Diabetes or
  • Heart, lung, or liver infection.
Abdominal etching usually gives desired results but there can be some risks involved which include
  • Risks related to general anaesthesia which are very rare-General Anaesthesia is very safe in present times and with best machines and a qualified anaesthetist, chances of encountering any complicationis less than 0.1 percent in a healthy individual. We at Kayakriti Plastic Surgery and Dental Centre are equipped with world class anaesthesia workstation, other equipments and two very qualified intensivists for the surgical procedures to be very safe and smooth.
  • Accumulation of the fluid i.e., Seroma formation can occur which usually decreases and stops in some time.
  • Infection (quite rare)
  • There can be persistent swelling and bruising in the surgical area which reduces with time.
  • Poor wound healing if you have poor blood supply (seen more in smokers, diabetics, people with multiple diseases).
  • Sometimes irregular contour is visible over the operated area, which gets corrected with the regular use of the pressure garment in most of the cases.
  • Sometimes change in skin sensation (numbness) is noticed which gets better with time
  • The rare event of Deep Vein Thrombosis, fat embolism, pulmonary or cardiac complications, and lidocaine toxicity can occur or precipitate in patients with multiple pre-existing diseases diagnosed or undiagnosed by routinely available standard tests and if multiple procedures are done in the same sitting.

These are the risks and possible complications which should be discussed by you with Dr. Amit Agarwal before the procedure.

When will you start seeing results?

The total benefits of abdominal etching will be seen after the swelling and bruising subsides. It is also very important to maintain a healthy lifestyle to maintain your shape and contour. If you are unable to maintain it or plan an exercise regime, there can be deposits of unwanted fat at other sites other than the surgical. Then probably you may have to go under another surgery.

Do's and Don'ts of Abdominal Etching

  • You should never force your doctor for excess fat removal as it can give irregular contour or can compromise blood supply of the enveloping skin of abdomen. Dr Amit Agarwal will assess, calculate and sculpt the abdomen after taking in to account all your health parameters and fatty deposits to give you best results.
  • You should not get into surgery if you are having any major chronic illness and should not hide it with your doctor.
  • You should always wear the pressure garment until advised as it reduces swelling and improves your contour.
  • You should improve your lifestyle to avoid any further fat deposits in other body parts. So to maintain a shape and slimmer waist line you should pursue exercises and proper diet.
  • You should consult Dr Amit Agarwal immediately if you have any complications.
