What is Spider Vein?
Spider veins are abnormally enlarged blood vessels that appear as a cluster of red, blue, or purple veins, most commonly found on the legs and calf region, especially in women. They become more prevalent with age and are often seen as a spider web-like pattern of tiny blood vessels near the skin’s surface.
Like varicose veins , spider veins occur due to weakened tiny, one-way valves inside the veins. Normally, these valves ensure that blood flows in one direction, toward the heart. When these valves weaken or fail to close properly, blood can flow backward and accumulate in the vein. This accumulated blood puts pressure on the vein walls, causing them to weaken and bulge over time, resulting in spider veins and, in more severe cases, varicose veins.
